070510 1828 LOSTCoCreat1 LOST Co Creator Carlton Cuse and Writer Adam Horowitz Video Interview

For my final interview from this year’s Saturn Awards, I saved one for all you fans of Lost.  That’s because hanging out backstage after the show was Lost co-creator Carlton Cuse and co-executive producer and writer Adam Horowitz.  Even though they had been talking for awhile and I missed out on some of the interview, I did manage to ask if the big Lost DVD/Blu-ray box set arriving next month is really the final one and I also asked why wasn’t writer Bryan K. Vaughn involved in the final season.  It’s been a big mystery among the fans.  I also asked the question everyone has been wondering: is it too soon to ask Cuse and Damon Lindelof to do another TV show!

Finally, in case you weren’t aware, on the big DVD/Blu-ray box set is a 12 minute coda  to the series. Cuse talks about what you can expect.   If you’re a fan of Lost, this is a must watch interview.  Hit the jump to check it out and I really hope you’ve enjoyed all the video interviews I managed to land at this year’s Saturn Awards.

Posted by:   in News · Comments (0)

The Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films has announced the winners of 36th Annual Saturn Awards. In the television category, “Lost” went above “Fringe” in taking home the most prizes. The ABC series which ended its 6 years run in May is awarded with three while “Fringe” gets two.

The first award for “Lost” is dedicated to the series’ star Josh Holloway. The depicter of Sawyer wins Best Actor on Television while Anna Torv of “Fringe” wins the female counterpart. The other two awards are for Best DVD Television Release, particularly for the fifth season’s set, and for the coveted Best Television Series.

In terms of chance, “Lost” actually misses a lot because the TV series received eight nominations while “Fringe” only got three. The same case happens to “True Blood” which took in five nominations but left with none.

The awards event took place Thursday, June 24 in Burbank, California. The organization also recognizes excellence in movie, home entertainment and theater production.

‘Lost’: Could Josh Holloway Become A Movie Superhero?

Posted by:   in News · Comments (0)

Lost fans missing Sawyer on their television screens, here’s something to think about: maybe you’d want to see him as a superhero on the big screen?

There were rumors over the past couple of days that Josh Holloway is in talks with Marvel Studios, the people behind the Iron Man franchise and upcoming films for Captain America and Thor. SlashFilm reports that the Lost star is negotiating for an unspecified lead role in a similarly unspecified film — which doesn’t really say much, don’t you think?

Turns out they’re just rumors after all. Holloway’s reps gave a short statement to ComicBookMovie.com, denying that such talk have happened. “This is just a rumor,” they said.

But don’t be surprised if you see Holloway on the big screen soon. “I’m ready to do some movies,” he told the Philippine Daily Inquirer. “I’m going to hang off TV for a couple of years. Luckily, my wife is like the CIA of finance so I can make artistic decisions and hold back. It’s a little bubbling of excitement and nervousness.”

If he does make movies, should he be a superhero? Or would you want it to be closer to Sawyer?

One of the most enduring couples in Hollywood is over, as Lost’s Naveen Andrews and veteran actress Barbara Hershey have split up after twelve years.

060110 0934 LostNaveen1 Lost: Naveen Andrews Confirms Split with Long Time Partner

Andrews’ manager told People magazine that the pair, who met on the set of the obscure indie film Drowning on Dry Land in 1998, remain “best of friends”.

Andrews and Hershey have a 21-year age difference: he is 41, and she is 62. The two were together for twelve years, save for a brief separation in 2005, when Andrews confirmed that he had fathered a child with another woman. The pair have since worked things out and resumed their relationship until six months ago, when the two mutually parted ways.

Hershey appeared in films such as Hannah and Her Sisters and Beaches. Apart from Lost, Andrews recently guest starred on Law & Order: SVU.

Plane Crash Pictures Not Related to ‘Lost’ Ending

Posted by:   in Lost Season 5 · Comments (0)

Very meticulous fans of “Lost” may be wondering what the footage at the end of “Lost” series finale means. The images of Oceanic 815 plane crash on the beach were played right after Jack closed his eyes and the “Lost” logo appeared, prompting speculation that the producers included one last easter egg that may lead to different interpretations on the ending.

Los Angeles Times dug out the mystery deeper and received a clarification from ABC execs. The photographs were not part of the story at all, it is confirmed. The producers of the show did not put it there but the network did without any intention to confuse the viewers about the ending.

“The images shown during the end credits of the ‘Lost’ finale, which included shots of Oceanic 815 on a deserted beach, were not part of the final story but were a visual aid to allow the viewer to decompress before heading into the news,” an ABC spokesperson wrote in an e-mail to L.A. Times.

“Lost” ended its six-year run on Sunday, May 23 with 13.6 million viewers tuning in. [Spoiler Alert] Christian Shepherd told Jack that he is dead and that everyone in the church is too. Some loose ends were not tied for Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse claimed they can’t answer all questions in just one night.

‘Lost’ Prepared Wedding as Alternate Ending

Posted by:   in Lost Season 5, News · Comments (0)

Lost” is no more but the chatter about the finale is still going on. Fans, who were either satisfied or disappointed with the ending, are questioning whether creators Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse had prepared an alternative ending. Man in Black depicter Titus Welliver said they did not because they did not shoot any other scenes for the finale. But, E! Online dug out an information that there was indeed an alternative.

052510 1849 LostPrepare1 Lost Prepared Wedding as Alternate Ending

The sci-fi series could have ended with the wedding of Sun and Jin. But the catch is, the wedding was never intended to make it on air because it was deliberately created as faux script. Lindelof and Cuse spread a fake call sheet to the entire cast about the wedding so that spoilers would go toward the direction. However, in the end the so-called “spoilers” were never leaked.

Alternative endings were also offered by Jimmy Kimmel who dedicated his talk show entirely for the show. But true to Kimmel’s nature, the three “alternate endings” were a bunch of sketch supported by the real cast.

As previously said, Cuse and Lindelof did not tie all loose ends in the May 23 finale. They did not reveal why Eko is absent, the Man in Black’s real name and such. Lindelof posted a short message on Twitter, saying “Remember. Let go. Move on. I will miss it more than I can ever say.”

Surprisingly only 13.5 million viewers tuned in to watch the finale. This is considerably low since the show’s very first episode absorbed 18.6 million and the show broke the record in the first two episodes of season 2 with 23 million.

‘Lost’ – ‘The End’ Recap (Series Finale)

Posted by:   in Recaps · Comments (0)

I was right! I was right! Well, I was probably more wrong than right, but I was right about one key thing, which makes me very happy. Happy not just because I’m right, but because what I’m right about is just so appropriate; so perfect for this series finale.

As finales go, ‘The End’ will definitely go down as one of the more satisfying ones; even though it didn’t come close to answering all of our questions about the Island and its special properties. But creators Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse promised that we would be satisfied with the conclusions of the character arcs, and in that regard I think they’re right.

At two-and-a-half hours, I’m still digesting everything they threw at me. I struggle at times to sort out a typical one hour episode, much less a feature film length one. But I’m glad the finale will linger with me in the weeks to come, because it is bittersweet saying goodbye to ‘Lost.’ There has been nothing like it on television, and there may never be again. That it succeeded at all is a miracle.

The question of when the beta-verse occurred has finally been answered, and while it was 2004, it wasn’t at the same time. The beta-verse was an equivalent to the Purgatory many religions believe in. As I indicated, it was a place where everyone seemed to be doing better; they’d achieved their root desires and passions, but it was by no means perfection. As such, it could not be Heaven. If this is to be equated to that belief system, then it was appropriately Christian Shephard who opened the doors to Heaven, awaiting all of them who’d come together.

The characters we’d come to know and love needed one another, and that’s what the Island gave them. They needed to find one another in the beta-verse as well, to emotionally resolve their experiences on the Island. For most of them, that trigger was love. For Benjamin Linus it was brutality and violence, which is why he did not go into the church (notably of many faiths). He did not feel he was yet ready to transcend, or move on, to the next plane.

It’s still unclear exactly what the Island was, though I’m sure many have theories already. I’m sure I’ll come up with one in the next day or so, but right now it’s a little too fresh and muddled in my mind. That thing i was right about? That Hurley would ultimately take on the mantle of protector of the Island. Perhaps the Island is the spiritual center of our world. The “other Mother” from a couple of weeks ago was the sole guardian for a long time.

It was only happenstance that a set of twins came along to be the next generation, unless you believe it was by design. Only one could be the guardian, so what role could the other play. Perhaps there is only ever supposed to be one guardian, and when there is things are peaceful. Because the Man in Black existed, and became what he was by killing the “other Mother” and enraging Jacob, the Island became more tumultuous.

Hurley selecting Ben as his “#2″ fulfilled Ben’s lifelong passion of being special, but it was done in the real world. In Purgatory, he was a far kinder man than he’d been on the Island, but he didn’t have Alex as his daughter; instead he had her as a student. As it turns out, he may well be on his way to a relationship with Danielle Rousseau, depending on how the properties of that world work.

If the gang in the church go through the light, does that version of Purgatory still exist, and if it does, are they still a part of it for Ben, or will they have all mysteriously vanished? Time has no real sense there, so I’m sure everything can happen however it needs to.

I’m pretty satisfied with the beta-verse being a level of the afterlife, awaiting the opportunity to move on to something even more perfect. The only thing needed to do so, is the ability to forgive. Not only those around them, but most importantly themselves their shortcomings.

At the same time, there’s a part of me that things making it all about explaining the beta-verse was a pretty clever way to get out of explaining most of the mysteries and secrets of the Island. I’d liken it to when a magician uses misdirection to keep the audiences eyes away from the sleight of hand.

I’m not saying I needed to know all of the secrets of the Island, but they certainly left a lot more open to interpretation than I expected. By the way, if Desmond pulling the plug on the light made Jack and MiB-Locke lose their immortality and powers, how was Jack able to transfer the role of guardian of the Island to Hurley? How could the water have still had any of those properties?

We are left to wonder if and how Ben and Hurley got Desmond off the Island, and what happened next to them, but those are questions I don’t mind lingering. I’m not sure why the Island had to be sunk in the beta-verse, or how it would have come to be that way. It’s also still a mystery how they traveled through time, what the light was (as well as its dryer, redder alternate), how you can move an Island, why it is so hard to find from the outside world and vice-versa, who the “other Mother” was, and why the light needs to be guarded. We also never learned why Walt was special.

But again, if it was about satisfying closure for the characters, we got that in spades. Even the characters we didn’t see seemed appropriate. Ana Lucia wasn’t ready yet, as Desmond said, because she’s not ready to ascend. Michael, likewise, is probably not ready to atone for his sins. Perhaps we are to believe that Walt was not dead, even though time didn’t really matter in the beta-verse. I’d like to think rather that he wasn’t in need of this stage of the afterlife an went straight on to what was next.

I enjoyed every single connection moment that trigger memories of their real lives back on the Island, Kate again helped to deliver Aaron, while Charlie and Claire rediscovered their love. Sawyer found it over a candy bar with Juliet, while Sayid saved Shannon from a beating. Locke’s coming when he wiggled his toe is perfect, as that was the defining moment of his personality on the Island. Jack, of course, resisted as long as he could, but eventually succumbed to the flashes of truth when touching the casket that did not contain the body of his father.

Visually, It was appropriate that Jack made his way back to the exact place he awoke on the Island, passing one of the tennis shoes his father was wearing in the casket, and even had Vincent by his side when we had our closing shot of his eye closing, rather than opening. While there are a lot of unanswered questions, we are supposedly promised additional scenes (about 20 minutes of them) on the DVD set that will answer yet more of them, as well as other answers given by the creators.

That ought to give them some extra time to come up with them.

Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof, the two people behind “Lost“, appeared before David Letterman to read the Top 10 list about the show’s ’spoilers’. “These are the two men who bear the responsibility of a neat, tidy, sensible way to tie up all the loose ends,” Letterman introduced the executive producers.

052010 0956 LostCreator1 Lost Creators Reveal Spoilers on Lettermans Top 10 List

The first in the list is “I watched – didn’t understand a thing”. Damon then read the ninth point, saying “Hurley spends the whole show shaking sand out of his underpants.” Cuse then jokingly admitted at No. 8, “We just took an old ‘Love Boat’ script and changed its name”.

The biggest laughter came from point 7 where it is said, “Due to pressure from the internet, we were forced to include Betty White”. The joke is referring to White’s fans who successfully encouraged NBC via a Facebook campaign to have her hosting “Saturday Night Live“.

There’s a cameo from Michael Emerson who plays Ben in the series saying, “I have to go to Target to get socks” in his usual creepy way. The biggest ’spoiler’ from the finale on May 23 is “Final Scene: Carlton and I get paid and drive home in our expensive cars.”

Preview of ‘Lost’ Series Finale: The End

Posted by:   in News · Comments (0)

The end of “Lost” is numbered by days and a preview from the series finale has been released. “The end is a statement that can be both thrilling and bittersweet,” the narrator says, adding that Jack, Kate, Sawyer, Hurley and Locke will be there for the finale farewell.

051910 0823 PreviewofLo1 Preview of Lost Series Finale: The End

In order to tie all loose ends, creators Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse have made a deal with ABC to extend it to two and a half hours instead of the original two hours. The finale is thus a five-and-a-half-hour event on May 23, beginning at 7 P.M. with “Lost: The Final Journey” and ending at 1 A.M. with “Jimmy Kimmel Live!: Aloha to Lost”.

The cast of “Lost” made a special farewell video to mark the end of the series. The footage was played during ABC’s upfront presentation at NYC’s Lincoln Center on Tuesday, May 18. E! reported Matthew Fox said, “I couldn’t have imagined it ending in such a beautiful way,” while Evangeline Lilly said, “I came here as one person. I leave as another. I will be eternally grateful.”

One useful hint to figure out how the finale will go comes from Lilly who said, the series will end with the “six people who took you on this journey.”
